Local Photographer Names Top Ten in Ohio

Columbus - Lori Overmyer of Exposures Unlimited Photography in Fremont recently competed in the Mid-East States Affiliated Print Competition hosted by the Professional Photographers of Ohio at the Hyatt Regency/Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus.

Lori Overmyer was one of 206 Photographers entered in this six-state regional competition. Each photographer is permitted to enter four prints. Out of the 792 prints that were submitted for judging, only 277 were awarded Blue Ribbons from all categories. Lori's entries included a wedding image entitled "Just a Step Behind" which received a Gold Corner of Achievement Award, a child portrait entitled "Password Protected" of Tyler Nason of Fremont which received a blue ribbon, Merit and Gold Corner Award, a wedding image of Sara Boger of Clyde, entitled "Destination...I Do" which received a blue ribbon, Merit and Gold Corner and also a Court of Honor Award. Her wedding image of Chad and Nicole Laughlin of Clyde, entitled "She's Mine Now" received a blue ribbon, Merit and Gold Corner Award and was also selected to receive the prestigious Kodak Gallery Award for the Mid-East States Region in the Wedding Category. This award is described as "the benchmark for saluting technical execution and visual impact in the photographic arts." She was presented with an engraved glass trophy. For these honors and overall print scores Lori was named to the Top Ten Photographers in Ohio. This is her first time in the Top Ten.

By earning a Blue Ribbon at the Mid-East States print competition; the photographer will earn a Merit when the print is submitted to the International Print Competition of the Professional Photographers of America. After earning 25 of these Merits, a photographer may earn his "Master of Photography" degree from the PPA.

"Master of Photography" from all over the World judged the event. The Mid-East Regional competition consists of entries from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio. It is one of the largest print competitions in the country.

While participating in the competition, they were able to attend and celebrate the 50th Annual Convention and Trade Show of the Professional Photographers of Ohio. This year the convention offered numerous programs and demonstrations offering new techniques and trends in today's photography including a workshop with nationally renowned celebrity and society wedding photojournalist Denis Reggie.
